“Getting Back to Our Roots”
How will this be accomplished? We’ve
adopted the Studer Group model to implement our Service Excellence
program. To help us reach this target, we’ve established 6 Pillars
that will provide the foundation for setting organizational goals for
service and operational excellence. Each of the six pillars has
organizational goals set by our “Service Excellence” team and supported
by hospital leadership:
Community: Educate
public about the services available and important health issues in order
to promote a healthy community; commit to meet the needs of our
community by actively partnering with local and regional agencies
People: Commitment
to provide a supportive, encouraging environment in which to work;
increase employee satisfaction and loyalty and become the best employer
in the city; every team member at CMH will be selected for their
leadership, professionalism, expertise, compassion and commitment to the
values that set CMH apart
Service: Reduce
number of patients that leave
Quality: Be the
cornerstone for quality in patient and customer service performance; to
reduce infections and the number of re-admissions; improve communication
between departments and make an effort to educate ourselves on functions
of other departments in order to improve quality and continuum of care
Growth: Increase
outpatient services; improve customer and community relations to promote
growth in the use of the facility; physician recruitment and retainment
Financial: Maintain
financial soundness at all times; provide cost-effective care to the
community; improve collections relations with customers; reduced
overtime
HISTORY
Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Cogdell, for whom the hospital was named,
contributed $200,000 to the hospital to see that the building was
constructed and equipped exactly as it was originally planned. The
land on which the hospital is located was also donated by D.M.
Cogdell. It was the northwest corner of the Cogdell’s 3000 acre
ranch south of town.
The hospital officially opened on Sunday, January 31, 1954 with an
open house. The hospital had five wings extending from the main
building. Scurry County citizens supported and assisted in
furnishing the rooms. The contributions were a significant factor in
assuring that the building project would be carried out as
originally planned.
Mr. Cogdell also established a trust to provide for the care of
charity patients in the county hospital. The source for the
non-profit fund was to come from 15 percent of Cogdell's profit from
oil, gas, and minerals produced on 641 acres in the Cogdell Field;
which was in Scurry and Kent Counties. This placed from $40,000 to
$50,000 a year into the hospital for charity.
